Low Voltage Landscape Lighting

Have you ever walked by someone’s front yard or property in the afternoon and been amazed by the low voltage landscape lighting that the owner has installed? I know it’s happened to me many times before. It’s amazing how lighting fixtures can make a garden look regal at night.

Obviously, low voltage landscape lighting fixtures are not only used to make a yard look beautiful but it is also there as a safety precaution. If you often come home late at night and need to find your way to the front door or up the pathway to the backyard then it is a good idea to have a few of these lights installed to help you reach your destination safely. Not everyone enjoys having bright security lights glaring into other people’s yards, so these types of lights are a perfect choice.

You’ll also be glad to know that you can purchase them at reasonable prices that won’t empty the bank. Low voltage landscape lighting fixtures can also be a wonderful addition to the BBQ and pool areas. You can purchase lights that blend into the environment unobtrusively.

The installation of these lighting fixtures is quite simple to do as well. You simply buy the style of your choice will and then place them where you want them to go. Make sure that the transformer box is in an inconspicuous but easy and safe to reach location. Once you have done this task then you can start digging up the area where you want the cable to go and then once you have positioned the cable inside, cover it with soil, mulch, stones or whatever else you like.

It’s better if you have an outdoor power socket to connect the lights too but lots of people choose to connect the lights through a window to an indoor power socket.  It all depends on how far away your transformer is going to be from your house. The choice is all yours. For safety reasons, it’s better to call a professional electrician to install a GFI outlet outside for you. You can always get an electrician to do the entire installation job for you too if you don’t want to do it yourself.

Some people like the alternate option of installing solar powered lighting fixtures to their garden, which in turn saves a lot of work for you. They don’t give off as good a light as low voltage landscape lighting but they can be installed much quicker and of course easier. However, you also have to wait about 48 hours before they can work properly due to the fact that they need to be charged from the sun, but after that period they should work well every night.

Both of these types of yard lighting fixtures can be purchased at most large department stores or hardware stores. Whichever you decide, you will still be pleased with the effect that you will get in your yard at night.
